Man dies after jumping from a moving taxi and being hit by a BUS

Witnesses watched on as man leapt from the car into the path of the bus with the M8 forced to close for hours

A MAN has been killed after jumping from a moving taxi and being hit by a bus on one of Britain’s busiest motorways.

The 23-year-old man jumped from the taxi while it was driving along the M8 in Glasgow before he was hit by a bus in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Horrified passengers on the bus and other motorists are believed to have witnessed the moment when the man jumped out of the taxi, a Peugoet E7 private hire car, about 12.30am.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The horrific accident occurred on a 50mph stretch of the motorway close to Glasgow's Royal Infirmary.

The section of the motorway on the westbound carriageway near junction 15 was closed while emergency services dealt with the situation.

Inspector Janet Dickie of Police Scotland said: "There would have been other cars driving on the motorway around the time of this incident and it is important we speak to anyone who witnessed what happened.

"In particular we would like to speak to any passengers on the bus involved who may have information to assist with our enquiries."

She added: "Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the Road Policing Unit based at Helen Street through 101."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland there were no injuries to the bus driver or any passengers.

She added: "We would like to speak to each of the passengers on the bus to find out exactly what they saw."
