British Muslim convert who was part of ‘Babies for ISIS’ gang of mums trying to join group jailed for two-and-a-half years

Lorna Moore, 34, from Walsall, planned to take her three young kids out to Syrian war zone to meet her extremist husband

A BRIT mum who wanted to bring up her kids under ISIS in Syria has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Muslim convert Lorna Moore, 34, from Walsall, West Midlands, was convicted of planning to take her three young children – including an 11-month-old baby – out to the Middle Eastern war zone.

Judge Charles Wide described Moore – whose husband Sajid Aslam had already travelled to link up with the terror group – as a “very strong character”.

She failed to tell police that Aslam, 34, was planning to fight with ISIS before he left in August 2014 – instead planning to take their children and meet up with him.

The mum-of-three had tried to claim that she had broken up with her husband after he was abusive, and that she would never have put her kids’ lives at risk.

But sentencing at the Old Bailey, Judge Wide said she “knew perfectly well of [her] husband’s dedication to terrorism,” adding that Moore had a worrying “facility for telling lies”.

She had told jurors that when she turned to a Muslim cleric for a divorce, he told her that a “white Muslim is not a special Muslim” and ordered her to take back her husband.

Moore was one of a group of women from the same community who aimed to raise their children in the ‘caliphate’.

Kerry Thomason, 24, was pregnant when she was prevented from flying to Syria to meet her extremist convert husband Alex Nash, 22.

Calling her “naïve”, the judge handed her a two-year suspended sentence and six-month tagged curfew from 6pm to 6am after conceding her husband had threatened her.

Ayman Shaukat, 28, was also convicted for helping Aslam and Nash to leave the country.

The Islamic studies teacher – who posed for pictures with an ISIS flag after dropping Moore’s husband off at the airport – was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a five-year extended licence.

The convicted burglar with a law degree was nicknamed ‘Karma Chameleon’.

This was because of the different versions of himself he presented to jurors, and because his home in the Caldmore area of Walsall was known locally as ‘Karma’.

Nash, who was arrested by Turkish cops and sent back to the UK, was handed a five-year jail term, with a one-year extended licence.
