Britain is just 10 days away from enjoying the hottest summer in a CENTURY

Temperature records look likely to be smashed throughout June, July and August

BRITAIN is set to sizzle as forecasters claims we are a now just 10 days away from the start of what is shaping up to be the hottest summer in more than A CENTURY.

A freak shift in weather patterns will send thermometers rocketing to 30C (86F) in early June followed by three fantastic months of super hot sunshine.

And the latest weather patters suggest the highest ever UK temperature of 38.5C (101F) could be beaten this summer.

A blistering “heat surge” from the Continent at the start of next month will bring a taste of things to come with heatwaves predicted throughout the summer.

The predictions are based on a rare set of meteorological circumstances which now appear to have converged.

And after weeks of uncertainty, long-range forecasts have in the past few days started to agree that an imminent and perhaps unprecedented heatwave summer is on the way.

Summer 2016 could put previous scorchers which occurred in 1915, 1949,1959, 1976, 2003, firmly in the shade.

Each of these years saw either record high temperatures for a limited time or unusually long periods of hot weather with 35.9C (96.6F) recorded in July 1976.

This month brought the hottest May temperatures for four years after the mercury hit 27.1C (81F) at St James’ Park, London, a fortnight ago.

A similar trend, as suggested by some weather models, would see records of 35.6C (96F) in June 1976, 36.7C (98F) inJuly 2015 and 38.5C (101F) in August 2003 tumble.

James Madden forecaster for Exacta Weather, said summer will kick off towards the end of next week as high pressure builds over the Azores Islands.

He said: “From the start of next week will see high pressure building in across the country to bring dry weather and prolonged periods of sunshine for many.

“This will bring a surge in temperatures for many, and temperatures could approach the mid 20s at the very least in places.

“We can expect these changes to become even more prominent throughout the start of the meteorological summer and in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

“Temperatures will be on a gradual increase to even warmer values within this period, and high 20s or even 30C are not out of the question with this type of high pressure set-up over the UK.”
