A HEROIC cop teamed up with drivers on an Alaska road to save a man from his burning car as he screamed for help.
Stunning footage from the dashcam of the police car shows Mitchel Veenstra run over to the flaming vehicle in Anchorage, Alaska.
According to police, the man couldn’t get out of his burning car because he had trapped his arm.
The car appears to have flipped onto its side after crashing by a forest road.
As soon as the police car stops, Veenstra can be seen running towards the flaming wreckage.
The man screams “Oh my God, oh my God” as he can’t escape from the car.
The cop tells the gathered drivers that the car will need to be lifted to free the man’s arm.
Veenstra asks the man where his arm is trapped so they can move the right section of the car.
Along with two other people, the police officer attempts to shift the heavy load.
Even though the car moves a little, it isn’t enough to free the man’s arm.
When flames erupt from the front of the car, the police officer and citizens start to push harder.
But their efforts come to nothing as the man is still trapped.
Another man runs into the frame to help out.
With the added force, the four men manage to free the man’s arm enough for him to slip under the vehicle to safety.
The victim is in disbelief that he is alive, holding his head in his hands and stopping to squat down.
The man tells the police officer: “I thought I was literally going to die.”
Veenstra says: “I’m glad to be talking to you right now.”
Thankfully, the man was not seriously hurt after his close call.
The incredible video was released by Anchorage Police Department.
The department said in the video: “Thanks to the heroic acts of nearby citizens and Officer Veenstra, a life was saved on this day.”
Police spokeswoman told Alaska Dispatch News: “They were able to move the car just enough that the occupant’s arm was freed and he was able to crawl out through the sunroof to safety.”
Anchorage police say that the man who was trapped was not wearing a seatbelt when he crashed his car.
He was trapped on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The man was able to escape thanks to a passer-by who smashed the sun roof in an attempt to free the victim.
After the man was released from the burning car, the fire was extinguished.
The victim was taken to hospital to check if he required any medical attention.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
