Pupils who had last day of school SCRAPPED over alleged prank plots ‘planned to dress up as terrorists and set off fireworks’
Parents and teachers had a dramatic stand-off at the school gates after the head cancelled girls' last day
PUPILS who had their last day of school cancelled over fears they would play pranks were "planning to dress up as terrorists and set off fireworks".
Furious parents staged a three-hour protest at the school gates after the last day of Year 11 was scrapped on Friday, amid fears girls were planning "a series of stunts".
Parents have since commented online claiming a group of students were planning to dress up as ISIS terrorists and set off fireworks at the school.
Michaela Hoult said: "I have a daughter at this school and I think it's disgusting how a few individuals behaved in such a disgraceful manner, including the parents of these children who tried to justify behaviour that could have led to someone or many getting hurt.
"The head was right to take the appropriate action for the safety of pupils in the school."
She later added: "Posing as a terrorist is a mockery of innocent victims who have lost their lives over recent weeks, months, years and to even consider the use of fireworks in a school is ludicrous.
"Rules are put there for reasons of safety, [it's a] shame some can't abide by them."
Helen Rose added: "Rather than blame the head, how about finding out who was planning pranks which would put other students at risk and blame them instead?
"Headteachers must abide by certain rules, and if she had gone ahead and let the pupils into school knowing that something risky was being planned, then she would have got into a heck of a lot of trouble if it did all go pear shaped."
Headteacher Christine Probine confirmed the pranks were of a "severe enough nature" to warrant the last day being cancelled.
The head said: "We had received information about a small group of students and pranks they were planning to try.
"We felt it was necessary to cancel the last day in the interest of other students' health and safety and for students who were taking examinations at the school that day."
Ms Probine emphasised it was a small group of girls who were involved in the plans, and says parents and the police have supported her decision.
She said: "The police are now investigating the claims and trying to get to the bottom of which pupils were involved.
"When we find out which students are to blame, they will be dealt with accordingly."
However some pupils and parents were still not happy with the school's decision.
Debbie Richies, whose daughter is a Year 11 student at the school, claims her daughter was forcibly expelled on Thursday and excluded on Friday after the prank rumours surfaced.
She told KentOnline: "I had to leave her at home in tears and missing out on saying goodbye to her classmates and teaching staff.
"I find it incomprehensible that a whole year group can be punished on the grounds of rumours circulating a school – whether founded or unfounded.
"It is also unacceptable to have only informed the parents after the event – the girls were left distraught out on the main road and not allowed back on to school premises, surely a major failing in the schools duty of care.
"I have asked both my local councillors and MP to investigate the matter, and have contacted Mrs Probin to ask for an explanation but with no reply as yet.
"It appears she cannot cope with the consequences of her actions and has gone into hiding."
A pupil caught up in the rumour storm also commented online to claim they were planning to dress as robbers, not terrorists.
The Year 11 student said: "I would just like to say being a student at this school and one of the accused this whole situation is so out of order the fact the teachers believe we are capable of this is ridiculous we were gonna wear balaclavas and DRESS UP on our last day as ROBBERS not Isis how direspectful do you think we are?
"It's been twisted so much the teachers have said the head teacher wasn't in but she locked herself in her office and refused to face the angry parents, the fact they were planning this for three weeks and sixth formers and other students have ruined our last day by making these rumours is horrible."
