They’d never be late! £200k Lamborghini is the first supercar in the UK to be granted a taxi licence
The supercar – which boasts top speeds of 202mph and a 0-60 of 3.2 seconds – can now be hired for “shopping trips” around Wolverhampton
A LAMBORGHINI has become the first supercar in the UK to be granted a TAXI licence.
The neon green Lamborghini Huracan is the first to be issued with a private hire cab licence, according to the council who handed it out.
The £200,000 supercar – which boasts top speeds of 202mph and a 0-60 of 3.2 seconds – can now be hired for “shopping trips” around Wolverhampton.
The Lamborghini has a five-litre engine and is a marked difference from the standard Nissan Almera taxi customers may be used to.
But the journey could set you back a whopping £349 for just 90 minutes - a step up from the normal meter ride in a cab.
City firm Special Wedding Cars has registered the luxury set of wheels with the council and it can be booked for any journey.
The co owner of the company, Heidi Warke, said: “It all started when we took my cousin to her prom.
“We thought about taking customers to their proms and after looking into it realised you had to have a taxi licence.
“It now means people can hire the car for whatever they like – if they want to come home from shopping in it they can. Although I don’t think they will fit much in the boot!”
The 30-year-old runs the firm alongside her sister-in-law Melissa, 26.
Heidi added: “We started the business in March and we hope people will now want to use the car for special occasions.
“But it essentially means the Lamborghini is now a taxi.”
After handing out the licence Wolverhampton City Council tweeted: “We’ve just licensed the first super car as a private hire cab in the UK.”
The car is already attracting attention with Twitter user @davidpotts writing: “Yes! This is how we do taxis in Wolverhampton! Local council licenses Lamborghini as a taxi.”
On its website Special Wedding Cars claims the Lamborghini Huracan “never fails to capture hearts and minds”.
The company said: “Taking its name from the Spanish for hurricane, the Lamborghini Huracan is a whirlwind of a super-car.
“Replacing the 11-year-old Lamborghini Gallardo, the Huracan had much to live up to, and it does, with all the passion you would expect from the Italian manufacturer.
“The powerful V10 pushes the Huracan to an impressive 610 bhp at 8250 rpm taking you from standstill to 62 mph in a breath-taking 3.2 seconds."
It said: “Hiring a Lamborghini Huracan with its lean angular looks and crisp sharp lines will enhance any special occasion.”
Special Wedding Cars offers a host of unusual vehicles, including London buses, Del Boy’s Reliant Regal and a VW Camper Van.
