A WOMAN posted a shocking video on Saturday of a man shouting at her that he hates “n******” and that “black lives don’t matter.”
Jakeila Phillips, of , wrote on Facebook she “finally got to catch” one of the racist encounters she experiences “all the time” on camera.
The 54-second-long video shows a white man who identifies himself as Barry Wardell yelling from another car as Phillips drives past.
“What did you say?” Phillips, a Black woman who remains calm throughout the encounter, is heard asking Wardell.
“I said I hate n******! Put me on ! !” he says as Phillips giggles in the background and says “OK.”
Quickly, Wardell shouts: “N*****!”
“Anything else?” Phillips asks the man in her video.
“Black should be slaves,” Wardell yells. “Give me back my grandparents’ property divided by your f**king ancestors.”
When Phillips asks what the man’s name is, he tells her it’s Barry Wardell, and said he works as a chef.
“I cook, I’m a chef. And I hang n****** on the weekend!” he shouts as the car drives ahead.
“No disrespect to you,” Wardell tells Phillips before the video ends.
The driver of the car Wardell is riding in doesn't appear to say or do anything during Wardell's interaction with Phillips, and further information about what might have sparked the video or what happened after was not immediately clear.
A Facebook profile with Wardell’s name — and a photo of a man — was removed as of Sunday.
The Utica Police Department on Sunday that they’re aware of a video that shows “a male screaming derogatory racial slurs at a passing vehicle.”
“We are actively looking into the incident to identify if any crimes have been committed,” cops said. “Regardless of the criminality of it we were disgusted and horrified by the words used.”“It is one of the most ignorant things anyone has ever said and is not indicative of the citizens here and the city we are all proud of,” went on to write.
Anyone with information about what happened is urged to contact the department at 315-223-3464.
In the video, Wardell demanded Phillips give him back his grandparents’ property, but it’s unclear what he’s referring to.
, property records in New York for Wardell, and Steve and Dori Pacheco, apparently show they violated the state’s property maintenance code.
During a town hall meeting in April 2018, a codes enforcement officer “was directed to serve written notice that the property owners are required to fence and secure the area around the home immediately.”
Notes from the meeting reportedly showed the trio was told the “debris must be disposed of properly; and once this requirement is completed, the aforesaid owners can then apply for a Demolition Permit.”
that on the same day the video was filmed, Wardell told a business owner in New Hartford he was doing to a “Black Lives Don’t Matter” rally.
No rally of that name was scheduled in the town, and the business owner reported it to the police.
The radio station reported that the cops visited Wardell, and that while no were filed, they were "keeping an eye on the situation."
Wardell reportedly worked as a food service provider for Hamilton College in Clinton.
College President David Wippman wrote in a statement that Wardell worked as a contract employee with their food services provider.
