Gigantic one-tonne gaping shark caught by stunned fisherman using just a net
The massive specimen feasts on plankton with its terrifying mouth wide open
THIS monster one-tonne shark usually found 160m below the surface was caught by a delighted fisherman using just a net.
The ultra-rare fish, which feeds on plankton with its cavernous mouth wide open, was caught in Mie Prefecture, Japan.
The deep-sea beast rises higher up to feed and was last seen two years ago, again in Japan.
It has been spotted just 60 times since it was first discovered in the mid-1970s.
The impressive specimen has since been bought by another Japanese fishmonger.
