Hilarious viral video shows Russian soldiers marching to 90s Aqua hit ‘Barbie Girl’

Footage has surfaced of Russian soldiers embracing their feminine side by singing dance-pop number while on parade

THEY might be known as real-life Action Men - but these Russian soldiers just want a makeover.

Hilarious viral footage has surfaced of a group of Russian soldiers singing Aqua's 90s dance-pop hit 'Barbie Girl' while on parade.

The burly young men betray their soft side as they march up and down a courtyard, with one soldier leading the chant.

With a shaky pubescent voice, the cadet yells: "I'm a Barbie girl".

Thankfully, his comrades don't hang him out to dry and join in with the rest of the song, yelling almost loud enough for Aqua to hear them in Denmark.

'Barbie Girl', released in May 1997, was a huge hit for the dance-pop stars, and stayed at number one in the UK singles charts for four weeks.

But the song was not without controversy. In 2000 it attracted a lawsuit from toymakers Mattel, who claimed its sexual innuendo had damaged the Barbie brand.

The hilarious clip, which some claim dates back to year of the single's release, goes against the preconception of Russian soldiers as hard-men obeying the will of steely leader Vladimir Putin.

And YouTube commenters were quick to seize upon the irony.

One wrote: "Perfect way to demoralize the enemy - sing pop songs while besieging a fortified position. That'll send them running eventually."

Just don't be surprised if you don't see Vlad singing along to the catchy number...
