Rapist footballer Ched Evans will find out next Thursday if his appeal has been successful as he prepares for re-trial
Disgraced striker has week until he finds out if his case will be reheard and still dreams of resuming his football career
DISGRACED footballer Ched Evans will hear if he has been granted a re-trial for his rape conviction by next Thursday.
Court of Appeal judges have received final submissions from the former Wales and Sheffield United striker's legal team, and Crown Prosecution Service.
They could quash the conviction, uphold it, or order a re-trial.
The former Sheffield United and Wales international was jailed in 2012 for raping a 19-year-old at a hotel near Rhyl, north Wales.
He was released from prison in 2014 on licence, after serving half of his five year sentence.
The victim, 19 at the time of the offence, was forced to change her name after her she was hounded on social media.
Evans still insists it was consensual sex.
He is said to be hopeful of resuming his football career and dreams of playing for Wales in the Euros this summer.
A source told The Sun: “Ched has been told that [Sheffield] United will come in for him if he is cleared.
“He could be pulling his boots on in a few weeks. He has kept himself fit but hasn’t played competitive football for several years so he’ll take a while to get match fit."
Evans' fiancée, who has stuck by him throughout, gave birth to their first child in January.
Her millionaire dad has funded his legal bill.
