'IN DESPAIR'

Steve Bing, 55, was ‘wracked with guilt over the drug death of 28-year-old girlfriend’ before suicide

STEVE BING was heartbroken over the drug death of his 28-year-old girlfriend before he took his own life, it has been reported.

Liz Hurley's ex killed himself days before the one-year anniversary of his girlfriend Allexanne Mitchum's death, according to social media posts by her family.

Steve tragically fell to his death on Monday after jumping from an LA skyscraper.

was said to have been planning to have children with Mitchum, who is the great-granddaughter of film legend Robert Mitchum, before she died in hospital last year, according to a social media post written by her aunt.

Carrie Mitchum, an executive chef, wrote on her open Facebook how she knew him for 32 years and that she introduced Steve to her niece.

She wrote: "Steve didn’t want to be a bad father, as he claimed his father was, so I was surprised he wanted to be a father but he told me Allexanne was afraid of being left alone if he died, since he was 25 years her senior."

The bereaved aunt, 55, said they had an argument on June 26 last year and Allexanne went to stay at a friend's house.

The pair made up, but before she returned to their Palm Springs home she took what she believed was a Xanax tablet.

It turned out to be laced with fentanyl and caused Allexanne to overdose - and she was declared dead on July 4, 2019.

Carrie wrote on Facebook that she saw Steve shortly before lockdown.

She wrote: "I went to his apartment in Century City, bought him a bunch of groceries, and we talked for hours. He was questioning God, the afterlife, the meaning of everything and anything.

"He got really quiet and his eyes filled with tears and he said… 'And the guilt'… I knew exactly what he meant.

"Allexanne had died on his watch. Our watch. That guilt tears me up every single day. Intellectually, I know it wasn’t his fault. Or my fault. It was a horrible accident. Emotionally, the guilt is crushing."

'OVERWHELMING DESPAIR'

Carrie went on to say that four days before the one-year anniversary of her niece's death, Steve took his own life.

She wrote that a few weeks prior to his death, he seemed to be doing well.

Carrie wrote: "A few weeks ago Steve was optimistic. He said he had been getting along with Elizabeth, he was working on an app to help soldiers with PTSD, he was angry about the virus and how the LA mayor had handled everything. Nothing seemed unsurmountable.

"But I know from my own experience moments of despair can become overwhelming."

Carrie also wrote that Steve knew the dead billionaire paedo Jeffrrey Epstein and that Allexanne had persuaded him to report any information he to police.

She wrote: "Steve also knew Jeffrey Epstein. They weren’t close and Steve didn’t 'hang out' with him but a little over a year ago Allexanne convinced Steve to make a statement via his attorneys telling what he did know.

"Allexanne was a staunch advocate for victims of the sex trade and felt any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could prove to be useful. That’s it. No big mystery or conspiracy here."

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office said the death was the result of multiple blunt trauma by suicide.

Bing was best known as an investor in films including The Polar Express and Beowulf, and he was also credited as a producer in Sylvester Stallone remake Get Carter.

He dropped out of Stanford University aged 18 after receiving a $600million inheritance from a real estate developer grandfather, and went on to co-found media company Shangri-La Entertainment.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn't discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society - from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It's the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it's rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You're Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let's all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others... You're Not Alone.

In a loving post to her Instagram account British actress Liz wrote: "I am saddened beyond belief that my ex Steve is no longer with us.

"It is a terrible end. Our time together was very happy and I'm posting these pictures because although we went through some tough times, it's the good, wonderful memories of a sweet, kind man that matter.

"In the past year, we had become close again. We last spoke on our son's 18th birthday.

"This is devastating news and I thank everyone for their lovely messages".

Damian posted on Instagram about the death of his father, writing: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that has reached out following the devastating news.
