The suspect was later tasered by cops who stormed through the front window of the house in Willow Wood, Blanchardstown, after finding the front door barricaded.

Neighbours were first to raise the alarm before the Armed Support Unit responded.

When they arrived, they looked inside and saw the victim injured in the back of the house.

They also saw a man with the weapon and tried to engage with him but he was unresponsive while the front door was also barricaded.

The local rep condemned the “shameful” attack and said future governments need to increase funding to tackle violence against women.

He said: “I think all types of violence against women is abhorrent and shameful. I think there should be a lot more resources and funding made available to help tackle this.
