When will the 29th series of Top Gear begin?

The new season kicks off on October 4 - the show will air on BBC One rather than BBC Two.

Filming on the series, including several overseas trips, was underway before the pandemic hit but was put on hold as production stalled across the industry.

Earlier in the year, showrunner Clare Pizey said: “It does look like most of our filming will be in the UK.

“Luckily for us, we had filmed some international and domestic mayhem before the lockdown started, and already have some really funny footage — footage that we absolutely could not film now with all three presenters in a car together."

While filming the new series, host Paddy McGuinness lost control of a £250,000 Lamborghini on 16 June, 2020.

A BBC spokesman said: “During Top Gear filming in North Yorkshire today presenter Paddy McGuinness’s car skidded and left the road, coming to an almost immediate stop.

"Paddy was quickly taken to the production unit base for medical checks and is unhurt.

"No other vehicles were involved and the Police, who had been monitoring filming, were quickly on the scene to assist."
