CROSSFIT CEO Greg Glassman has stepped down from the company after sparking anger among athletes, gyms and sportswear firms.
The 63-year-old founder posted an insensitive tweet that referenced George Floyd, leading to Reebok pulling its partnership deal with the fitness company.
Who is Greg Glassman?
Greg Glassman is an American businessman who founded CrossFit, a fitness training programme.
He founded CrossFit, Inc in 2000 with his former wife Lauren Jenai.
The couple are now divorced and have two boys and two girls together.
The 63-year-old former gymnast began training clients in the 1970s and in 1995 he opened his first gym.
There are 13,546 active affiliates in 144 different countries operating their own franchise gyms.
What did he say about George Floyd?
On June 6, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation stated "Racism and discrimination are critical public health issues that demand an urgent response" in the wake of George Floyd's death.
Mr Glassman commented on the post with: "It's FLOYD-19."
Other users were appalled by his insensitivity, with one commenting: "That is completely despicable and unacceptable for a person in a position of leadership to say such a thing. Great example you are setting Greg."
Another wrote: "The public execution of an individual and the systemic oppression of the black community and POC is not a joke. What is wrong with you?!"
He has been asked to step down as CEO and sell the company by furious followers.
Since the Tweet, Reebok has terminated its partnership with CrossFit.
Meanwhile, a number of gyms dropped CrossFit from their name, including Petworth Fitness in Washington D.C.
Why did he quit?
Following the backlash from his tweet, Glassman resigned on Tuesday , June 9.
In a statement, he said: "I'm stepping down as CEO of CrossFit, Inc, and I have decided to retire.
"On Saturday I created a rift in the CrossFit community and unintentionally hurt many of its members.
"I cannot let my behaviour stand in the way of HQ's affiliates' missions. They are too important to jeopardise."
His replacement has already been named, with Dave Castro taking over the helm of the £3.1bn company.

Glassman is said to be worth $100m (£78.4m), according to , as he owns 100 per cent of CrossFit.
He had co-founded the company alongside ex-wife Lauren Jenai in 1996, before buying her share for $16m in 2012.
CrossFit is said to make around $50m (£34.2m) a year in gym licensing fees alone.
