BRITS have enjoyed weeks of glorious sunshine in the driest May for 150 years but that's all set to come to a drizzly end.

Temperatures plummeted yesterday as rain swept in, and more miserable weather has been forecast for the days to come before a weekend washout.

And now forecasters have warned we're set to face more "unsettled" weather for the first two weeks of June, with a weekend washout on the way.Met Office officials say the temperature has dropped some ten degrees from Tuesday, when the UK was warmer than Ibiza.

Today will be a cloudy day with a cool northerly breeze.

Most areas will see one or two showers.

There'll be heavy rain in some places on Friday and into the weekend.

It is expected to be windy with gales possible in coastal regions.

Met Office spokesperon Greg Dewhurst said the maximum temperature will generally be between 15C and 20C.

"That's about normal for the time of year, but it will feel a bit cooler because we've got used to it being sunny for such a long time," he said.

Boris Johnson warned during last night's coronavirus press briefing that while the weather will be a washout, Brits shouldn't head into each other's homes to shelter from the rain.

We're now allowed to meet up outside in groups of six under new, relaxed lockdown laws.

But poor weather forecasts have sparked concern that members of the public will now invite loved ones inside where there is a higher rate of Covid-19 transmission.

Mr Johnson urged people to stick with the lockdown rules as the weather "threatens to take a turn for the worse", and said welcoming groups indoors could "undermine" the progress the country has made in the fight against the deadly virus.

He said: "I want to stress one final point which may be relevant today as the weather threatens to take a turn for the worse.

"Some of you may be tempted to move the gatherings you have been enjoying outdoors indoors out of the rain. I really urge you, don’t do that."
