Woman, 103, inspired by Captain Tom walks up and down steep hill outside her care home for charity
A WOMAN of 103 is walking up and down the steep hill outside her care home to boost the British Heart Foundation.
Inspired by Captain Tom Moore, Joan Willet aims to walk 17 miles by her birthday on July 19.
The ex-teacher, of Hastings, East Sussex, had valve replacement surgery after a second heart attack at 82.
Since then, she has regularly walked up and down the hill near her home to stay fit.
Joan said: “I am so grateful to the BHF and its research that has made operations like mine possible.
“I wouldn’t have survived without it let alone reach the age I am.”
She also credits the staff at Old Hastings House for her achievement, as she says they have encouraged her to retain her independence.
Joan added: “My achievement is also their achievement as I regularly tell my friends.”
She has raised £500 in 48 hours on JustGiving.
