A DAD scooped up his son seconds before he picked up a live grenade they mistook for a turtle.
Ex-circus juggler Louie Lomas, 29, grabbed Lockley, five, as he reached for the device.
They spotted it during a regular canal side walk in Taunton, Somerset.
He said: “It was right by our feet. I thought, ‘What’s a turtle doing in the ground?’ But it was pretty obvious what it was.
“Lockley did try to pick it up and I had to grab him very quickly.”
Louie called the cops about the World War One item.
He said: “They jumped us into the car and sped to the end of the road.”
“Luckily we were in the middle of nowhere with no houses within 100 meters.

“I was disappointed I didn’t get to see it explode.
The bomb squad detonated the grenade.
Louie said: “The look on Lockley’s mum’s face when we got back — it freaked her right out.”
