Unions target British Airways’ board in campaign to save 12,000 jobs
UNIONS yesterday targeted the board of British Airways in a “direct action” campaign to stop 12,000 jobs being axed.
Unite also aims to change the minds of BA’s corporate clients and investors.

The campaign includes a “Stop Betraying Britain” social media poster.
It claims BA is using the pandemic to ditch staff and put remaining employees on lower pay.
Angry staff aimed to project the poster on London landmarks to cause maximum embarrassment to BA.
The union sent a letter to the homes of all board members of its parent firm IAG.
It threatened to “shine a light on your betrayal of Britain and your cynical use of this crisis as cover for your corporate greed”.
The Sun on Sunday was sent a secret plan by the union, which intends to sit tight and do nothing for now.
'Cat and mouse'
It believes BA’s only legal option would be to make its entire workforce redundant — an “unlikely” move.
A union official said: “We can offer a legal challenge but not to their proposals.
“It would be on the grounds of constructive dismissal if we all lost our jobs.
“We’re furloughed so shouldn’t be discussing company business.
“We’re not meeting with them because if we do we have to find ways of mitigating job losses and negotiating proposals.
"This buys us more time.
“It’s a game of cat and mouse. BA’s backed itself into a corner.”

A British Airways spokesperson said: “We are acting now to protect as many jobs possible. The airline industry is facing the deepest structural change in its history, as well as facing a severely weakened global economy.
“We are committed to consulting openly with our unions and our people as we prepare for a new future.”
