CHICKEN RUN

Giant queues snake round the block as KFC reopens 55 drive-thru restaurants

KFC lovers queued for over an hour to get their fast food fix after the chicken restaurant opened drive-thru lanes across the country.

But the sudden reopening of 55 drive-thrus resulted in bumper to bumper queues, with one woman forking out £90 on one order.

Queues in Swansea wrap around one KFC, despite the chain urging customers to continue to order online still if they can to avoid people making unnecessary journeys

The fried chicken chain had already reopened 100 branches but they were for delivery orders only.

Photos showed people in their cars – resulting in traffic marshals being forced to manage the situation.

Kelly Bradford from Exeter took to Facebook to share her hoard of finger lickin’ treats that cost her a whopping £90.

In Swansea, Steve Pattin filmed the traffic jam from his apartment, claiming that the queue had remained the same since midday – calling the situation “absolutely bonkers”.

While the restaurant chain will remain closed for walk-ins, KFC’s website says the Drive-Thru will be open from midday to 9pm, seven days a week.

KFC’s website says: “An update from The Colonel: We’re reopening in a responsible way, this means we’ll be serving a limited menu to help the smaller kitchen teams maintain social distance.

“If you’re not near one of our open restaurants, never fear. We’re working hard to reopen more over the coming weeks.”

However, KFC is urging customers to continue to order online still if they can.

Car sales crash

NEW car sales crashed 97 per cent in April — to reach their lowest level since 1946.

Just 4,321 new vehicles were registered last month, says the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

That is down from 160,000 year on year.

April’s fall puts the UK on course for the worst annual car sales in three decades. SMMT chief Mike Hawes said it made “grim reading”.

The company continued: “We just want to offer a little more choice to those who are already on the road for essential journeys or on their way home from difficult shifts.”

A list of reopened restaurants, including the ones that are open for drive-thru orders as well, can be found below.

The update from KFC comes after McDonald’s confirmed the locations of its 15 restaurants that are set to reopen next week.

KFC will continue to offer a reduced menu, due to having less staff working at one time.

When The Sun checked what you could order using Deliveroo, KFC had single sandwiches, smaller meal boxes and larger bucket options available.

Of the smaller offerings, KFC fans could still order a single fillet burger, or go full out on a 14-piece bargain bucket.

Workers are being kept apart with designated two-metre zones inside restaurants, marked by tape on the floor.

KFC announced it was closing all branches on March 23 due to the coronavirus crisis.
