Boris Johnson formally divorced from second wife paving the way for him to marry Carrie Symonds after lockdown

BORIS Johnson has formally divorced his second wife - enabling him to marry fiancee Carrie Symonds.

Ex-wife Marina Wheeler, 55, applied for a decree absolute in February to end the 27-year marriage.

All that needed doing to complete the divorce was for her to fill in a form known as a D36.

Ms Wheeler completed it and returned it to the court just before the coronavirus lockdown was imposed by the PM in March, according to a report in the Mirror last night.

It means her split from Mr Johnson is now complete. It is believed they could each end up with £4million from the divorce settlement.

It means Mr Johnson, the UK’s 77th PM, has become only the second in British history to be divorced while in office.

Augustus FitzRoy, the 3rd Duke of Grafton, was the last to do so in 1769.

He also remarried while at the helm — and went on to have nine children with his second wife.

Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds, who gave birth to their baby boy Wilfred last week, are expected to get married once the coronavirus lockdown is lifted.

The whirlwind birth comes after a busy few months for the PM.

After December's election and passing Brexit on January 31, he quickly found himself dealing with the coronavirus pandemic in early March.

By April 5, he had contracted the deadly bug himself and ended up in hospital - spending three days in intensive care.

Boris met first wife, Allegra Mostyn-Owen, while they were students at Oxford.

They married in 1987 but the marriage was annulled in 1993.

That year he married Marina Wheeler.

Another little Wilfred

A ZOO’S rare rockhopper penguin chick has been named after Boris Johnson’s newborn son.

Wilfred, which arrived at about the same time as the PM’s baby, will grow up to have a blond crown of feathers.

It was hatched at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire as part of an international breeding programme but its sex has yet to be determined.

Keeper Jamie Graham said: “As a rule, I don't name the birds but this was too much of a coincidence to pass up.

“Little Wilfred will see their blond crown appear after their first moult.”

They have four children together, aged 20 to 26.

Mr Johnson also has a daughter Stephanie, who was born in 2009 - through his affair with property developer Helen Macintyre.

No10 refused to comment last night.
