The governor’s remarks come after Trump published on Tuesday that states run by Democrats shouldn’t depend on bailouts from the federal government.

“It’s not fair to the because all the states that need help — ,” said.

“ is doing phenomenal, is doing phenomenal, the is, you know, fantastic — very little debt.”

Trump added: “You look at , you look at New York, look at , you know, those three, there’s tremendous debt there, and many others.”

“I don’t think the Republicans want to be in a position where they bail out states that are, that have been mismanaged over a long period of time.”

“The debate now is — the ,” Cuomo said. “The Republicans are saying we don’t want to give money to the blue states.”

The governor said the coronavirus “kills [all] Americans,” regardless of political party.

“It’s not red or blue, it’s red, white and blue. This coronavirus doesn’t pick Democrats or Republicans. It doesn’t kill Democrats or Republicans, it ,” Cuomo said.

“If we don’t get the money from , we can’t fund schools at the rate we want to fund them. We are in dire financial need.”

“If we can’t get past this now, when can we ever get past it?” he questioned, adding that New York is facing a $13billion deficit because of the virus.

Cuomo went on to describe the notion that only certain states should get virus funding a “selfish, narrow, isolationist, divisive, partisan opinion.”

The governor described it as “self-defeating” and said if that’s how Trump will give out aid to the states — based on political views — “the nation will suffer.”

“He will have failed as a leader,” Cuomo said of Trump, adding it would be a “bad road” for him to take.

“There’s no bailout, because of the coronavirus this nation has been impacted and states have been impacted because the states make up the nation and we need financial help because of the coronavirus situation,” Cuomo said.

In recent weeks, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he sees “no good reason” why laws shouldn’t be changed to from the federal government.

The governor noted that New York “puts more money in the federal pot” than it gets back in funding.

He said New York pays $29billion more in federal taxes than it receives, while California pays roughly $6billion more than it gets back.

Meanwhile, Cuomo said, Republican-led states like get back $37billion more than it pays and Florida gets back $30billion more than it sends to the government.

Trump told the Post that New York has received a lot in return — and blasted New York’s Democratic and Kirsten Gillibrand.

“We give a lot to New York, you know, including great defense, defense to the whole country,” Trump said.

“So much more could be done for New York, but the leadership is so hostile in the form of your two senators.”

“You want to work for people, you want to work together with everyone and then you have these people, hostile as can be, always nasty,” the president said.

Trump added: “Then they come in and want things. It’s not like a working environment that you want to be involved with. I never even had a phone call from Schumer or Kirsten.”
