Some customers reported waiting for hours for their favourite brew during the coronavirus lockdown.

Long queues were also spotted at branches in Yorkshire, Watford and Nottingham.

Even the cops joined in as a police van waited in line at the branch in Manchester.

The queue for the drive-through in Glasgow near the Braehead Shopping Centre was said to stretch as far back to the main road near the M8 in Hillington.

In Edinburgh, drivers queued around the car park as they waited to be served by the baristas, who were wearing protective gloves and masks.

In the Scottish capital, two Costas were open, the Sharpdale and South Bridge branches.

One customer who had gone out for his food shop at the Iceland branch at the Snowhill Retail Park in Wakefield, said in a Facebook post there were scenes of “chaos” as he tried to get to the store.

James Gallivan wrote: "Just been up to Snow Hill for some shopping from Iceland.

"We had to queue for 10 mins just to get onto the retail park to only see the whole queue was for Costa Coffee!! On way out the Queues had got even worse, right back to The Vine Tree (Capri) roundabout!!!

"The road was in chaos, a police car couldn't even get through at one point!

"Seriously people of Wakefield give your head a shake if a coffee is that important to you, WE ARE ON LOCKDOWN!!!!!

"Carrying on like this we will never get rid of this Virus, pure madness!!!!!"
