The tribute brought traffic to a standstill on a busy part of the capital’s inner ring road on Saturday afternoon.

One female rider who attended the memorial event at the crash scene claimed police had given permission to go ahead.

She wrote on Twitter: “We had permission from the police. They were there chilling, making sure we were safe.”

The Sun Online has contacted the Met Police for clarification.

RIDE OF HONOUR

The motorcyclist, who has not yet been identified, was decapitated in a horrific accident in North London on Friday morning.

The biker crashed into the central reservation of the North Circular.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said at the time: "Police were called at around 11.40am to reports of a road traffic collision on the A406 westbound at its junction with Normans Mead NW10.

"Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service.

"A male motorcyclist collided with the central reservation.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We are in the process of tracing next of kin and await formal identification.
