These amazing kids have won our contest to brighten the walls for staff & patients fighting Covid-19 at NHS Nightingale
THESE lovely pictures would bring joy to any wall – and now they will be doing just that at one of the new Nightingale hospitals. Thousands of children under 12 entered our contest to send messages of support to staff treating Covid-19 patients at the 4,000-bed ward at the Excel centre, East London.
Our judges – Turner Prize-winner Keith Tyson and illustrator Tony Ross – then chose their top 20. Here, we reveal the winners, who each receive an art set as a prize.

Thomas Musson, four, Chelmsford, Essex
Mum Jo says: “Thomas has a speech delay and can find it tricky to express himself, so he gave his picture a big smile.”
Evelyn Cheng, five, Nottingham
Evelyn says: “I wanted to say thank you to all the doctors and nurses. I drew a colourful rainbow flower to bring the best luck to everybody.”

Dad Elliott says: “Evan wanted to cheer up key workers. He has also drawn chalk drawings on the path outside the house in tribute.”

Charlotte says: “I had to go to hospital as I broke my wrist. I was so grateful for how they looked after me despite being really busy.”

Christian said: “I drew the rainbow smile because the NHS doctors and nurses make people happy.”
Sophie Wainwright, nine, Nottingham
Sophie says: “I’d like my picture to be in the hospital so people can be happy and believe we all can get through this together.”
Toby Seligman, seven, Stillington, North Yorks
Toby says: “Without the heart you would die, and that is like the NHS. It’s like the heart of the country.”
Albert Watson, four, Larkfield, Kent
Albert says: “I drew it for poorly people. A rainbow to make them happy and love hearts for them from the doctors and nurses.”

Kieran says: “I saw pictures of US hospital staff holding up the US flag and I wanted to do a flag for us. I’ve written jobs in the map.”

A FURTHER ten winners will also have their art displayed at the Nightingale hospital and receive an art set.
These include Oscar Wood, seven, from Sandy, Beds.
Mum Vicky says: “Oscar designed these two pictures in support of our amazing NHS and for his auntie Jenny, who is a nurse working on the front line at the Lister hospital in Stevenage, Herts. He would love it if his artwork could be displayed to brighten up the walls at the Nightingale hospital.”
