Heartbroken family of boy, 13, killed in ‘hit and run’ pay tribute to lad ‘who brought joy to everyone’
THE family of a 13-year-old boy killed in a "hit and run" crash have paid tribute to his "heart of gold".
Mason O'Grady was rushed to hospital after being hit by a black VW Polo in Erdington, Birmingham, at 6.50pm yesterday.
But tragically he couldn't be saved and died a short time later.
The 28-year-old woman driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop.
Mason's devastated brother Adam Bryant has now paid tribute to the teenager in an emotional Facebook post.
He wrote: "Anyone who knew Mason would know how kind hearted, smart and loving he was.
"He would have done anything for anybody, he was was truly an amazing person.
"This massive shock has left a huge hole in our family so if anybody could help with the investigation please please don’t hesitate.
"Mason was a huge character he will be truly missed by everyone.
"See you soon little brother, love you more than you could ever know."
His family have also paid tribute to the teen, adding: "Mason was a handsome, kind, loving and genuine boy with a heart of gold.
"He would do anything to make you smile and he brought happiness and joy to the life of everyone he met.
"Yesterday whilst out walking with his family he was hit by a car as he crossed the road.
"As a family we are asking for any witnesses to come forward to help us understand why this happened to our beautiful, kind spirited boy.
"Mason, we will love you always."
Horrified locals reported hearing a "loud bang" after the car ploughed into Mason as he crossed by a set of traffic lights with his family.
One said: "My mum said she heard screaming shortly afterwards which she assumes was the boy’s parents.
“It’s just heartbreaking to think they were just out for a family walk on Easter Sunday and now a poor lad’s life has been lost.”
Police are now appealing for witnesses and described the crash as a "parent’s worst nightmare".
