Manslaughter charge for woman ‘who threw fatal punch at dementia patient, 86, who got close amid coronavirus distancing’

A PSYCHIATRIC patient accused of fatally punching an elderly woman for not practicing social distancing rules was charged with manslaughter on Thursday.

Cassandra Lundy allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on Janie Marshall when the 86-year-old got too close to her in a hallway of Woodhull Hospital on Saturday in .

The 32-year-old was , so she cracked her in the head and shoved her to the ground, police said.

More than 5,800 people in the US have died from and at least 236,300 have been infected with the killer virus.

Marshall, whose family members told the suffered from dementia, was waiting to be seen for a bowel obstruction while Lundy was being treated for seizures.

She died at the hospital on Monday, less than four hours after the alleged senseless attack.

The city Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide following an autopsy.

Hospital police gave Lundy, who resides in an assisted living facility with her husband, a disorderly conduct summons after the assault and released her.

NYPD cops booked her on manslaughter and assault charges on Thursday.

Lundy's husband, who didn't give the newspaper his first name, said he hadn't heard about the allegations against his wife - even after detectives showed up at their doorstep to arrest her.

He told authorities that Cassandra suffers from epilepsy and was being treated at the hospital in Brooklyn for seizures.

"She told me someone was messing with her," her husband said.

"She didn't say much about it. She was so upset. She was all shook up."

When Lundy's husband was informed about the suspected assault, he said: "Oh my God, she would not do that. She is not that kind of person."

Lundy has a lengthy rap sheet- she has 17 prior arrests on charges including drug possession, trespass, assault and strangulation, according to law enforcement sources.

Court records obtained by the Daily News show that she still has two pending drug possession cases.

Eleanor Leonard, Marshall's niece, said she learned of the circumstances surrounding her aunt's death through news reports the day after she died.

She told the paper she's happy to see Lundy behind bars and said she plans to sit front row when Lundy gets her day in court.

"I'm just thrilled that she was arrested and that my aunt will get justice," she said.

"I'm still trying to wrap my head around a person having such insensitivity to the elder people In our world."
