In a video, the eldest son of the Match of the Day host showed himself pouring out some vinegar with a squeeze of lemon.

Speaking in the clip, he said: "A little taste challenge. I think I’m on about day 12 of not being able to smell or taste anything.

"Get some vinegar in here, that will do. Some lemon, put that in. Here we go."

He then took three gulps - admitting he couldn't taste a thing.

George commented: "That's quite strange."

It comes after former England footballer Lineker said he had self-isolated after spending time with George, who had reported suffering a "complete loss of taste and smell".

The British Association of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT UK) has previously warned that patients who have lost their sense of taste and smell could have contracted the deadly bug - even if they don't have a fever or cough.

And a top expert warned that young people who suddenly lose their sense of smell or taste could be "hidden carriers" of coronavirus.

Currently, the only two official symptoms people are suppose to self-isolate for are if they have a new, continuous cough or a high temperature

However, ear, nose and throat specialists are now warning that people who develop loss of smell and taste - a condition known as anosmia or hyposnia (partial loss) - could be facilitating the rapid international spread of Covid-19.

It comes after the number of cases of coronavirus in the UK rose to 22,444 with 1,448 deaths.

In particular, the British Rhinological Society, who study the nose and sinuses, say they have seen rising numbers of young people in the past month suffering from loss of smell or taste.

And they fear it is these people who are spreading the deadly bug - as they currently do not meet current criteria for testing or self-isolation.

Lineker, 59, had previously revealed he was going into lockdown over the symptom scare with his son.

Tweeting, Lineker wrote: "In self-isolation as @GeorgeLineker has symptoms. They’re not the regular ones, but complete loss of sense of taste and smell.

"Odd these have not been pointed out much.

"Been nearly a week and has spent time at mine.

"I’ve been vigilant, hand washing/distancing but isolation it is."

He later added: "Worth being careful if you lose your sense of taste and smell. You could unknowingly have the virus.

"I checked all this with a doctor before sharing the information. Stay safe."
