Shopper ‘mugged’ for toilet roll leaving Savers store in London as coronavirus panic-buying grips UK

A SHOPPER was mugged for toilet paper moments after leaving a shop as coronavirus panic-buying peaks around the country.

Dinedra, 56, claims he was leaving a Savers store in Harringay, north London, when a stranger snatched a pack of toilet rolls from his hand.

He said: "I went to my local Savers and bought two packs of toilet rolls.

"I was shaken and shocked. Is that what we've come to? It's not the value of the toilet roll, it's the principle.

'SHAKEN AND SHOCKED'

"I'm concerned about the vulnerable people, the elderly, in terms of their health and their emotions as well."

Stores around the UK are selling out of items including dried pasta and hand sanitiser as worried shoppers stockpile goods.

Long queues built at the Harringay Savers store today as customers bought goods ahead of a possible Covid-19 lockdown.

At one north London Tesco, panicked shoppers left a "staggering" mess in the aisles after pulling items from shelves.
