Rod Stewart fans convention raided by trading standards with bootleg CDs and DVDs seized
SIR Rod Stewart fans were left shocked as officials raided a charity event endorsed by the singer to seize bootleg CDs and DVDs.
The Rod Stewart Big Weekend has raised £150,000 since its launch in 2002 and the rocker, 75, donates items while sister Mary attends ever year.
Alzheimer’s Society was the nominated beneficiary at this year’s three-day event, which is run by Sir Rod’s fan club and attended by 1,000 people.
But trading standards and the British Phonographic Industry seized around 150 unofficial recordings after a tip-off.
Fan club founder Ian Roberts said: “We don’t understand why somebody should go to trading standards. We do this for charity.”
David Featherstone, a stallholder at the event in Walsall, added: “Rod himself and our patron Mary, his sister, give their blessings every year so copyright isn’t an issue.”
Another fan said: “This isn’t about dodgy Del Boy types selling knock-offs.
“It’s well-meaning fans selling to other fans.”
