David Beckham ‘proud’ of Prince Harry and says he’s ‘growing up’ after marrying Meghan Markle and birth of Archie

DAVID Beckham has insisted he and Victoria are "proud" of friend Prince Harry after his marriage to Meghan and birth of son Archie.

The ex-England star praised the Duke of Sussex following his move to Canada with Meghan after they quit the royal family.

: "I haven't spoken to Harry about him moving. We speak as friends and that's the most important thing for me.

"I think he's enjoying being a young father for the first time and that's what we always spoke about.

"When you are a parent, it changes everything for you. He always needs to be happy."

The 44-year-old also said he and wife Victoria were proud of how the prince has adapted to being a dad after baby Archie was born in May last year.

David, who has four kids of his own, added: "We love him and he's an amazing person - and that's the most important thing - but I'm proud to see him growing up as an individual and being that person that every father wants to be.

"Every father wants to be loving to their children and that's what I see with him."

'JUST CALL ME HARRY'

The pair have been long-time friends through various charity initiatives and famously helped the UK secure the 2012 Olympic Games.

They are understood to have patched up their differences after Harry confronted the ex-Utd ace over fears Victoria had leaked stories about Meghan.

The row happened after a story appeared in 2017 but it later emerged the leak came from elsewhere.

Victoria and David were then snapped beaming at the royal wedding in Windsor in 2018.

Harry today insisted people "just call me Harry" as he returned to the UK for one of his final engagements before officially stepping down as a royal.

Today's event is the first in a string of engagements for the sixth-in-line to the throne as he returns to the UK for two weeks.

On Friday, Harry will work with Jon Bon Jovi to record a song to promote the Invictus Games.

And next week, the couple attend the Endeavour Fund Awards on March 5 in London while Prince William and Kate Middleton are in Ireland.

As part of the Megxit deal, Harry must ditch his honorary military positions for at least 12 months.

They have been allowed to keep their HRH titles but have been forced to accept that they will not use them publicly as they tout for business around the globe.

The Sussexes have already agreed to repay the £2.4million of taxpayers’ money used to refurbish their Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor and are expected to pay a commercial rent for it of about £30,000 a month.
