Cameras will also capture her quiet moments writing speeches and growing up while battling to save the planet.

Greta hit the headlines after organising a school protest against the climate crisis in 2018 under the banner Fridays for Future.

She has since been nominated for the Nobel peace prize in 2019 and 2020 as well as being named Time person of the year.

BBC Studios Executive Producer Rod Liddell said: “Climate change is probably the most important issue of our lives so it feels timely to make an authoritative series that explores the facts and science behind this complex subject.

“To be able to do this with Greta is an extraordinary privilege, getting an inside view on what it’s like being a global icon and one of the most famous faces on the planet.”

The Beeb is following US streaming channel Hulu in creating a documentary based Greta.
