Brad Pitt was among those to make a quip at the couple's expense as he was awarded Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Margot Robbie, who read out the speech on the 56-year-old's behalf told the A-lister crowd: "He says he’s going to name this Harry because he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him."

Prince Harry made headlines last month after announcing he and wife Meghan Markle were quitting as Royals and moving to North America.

And while William, 37, and Kate, 38, laughed at the "Megxit" joke, a source claimed the couple were not impressed.

UK media commentator Neil Sean : "The feedback is that many of the stars stepped out of line in front of the patron, which is the Duke of Cambridge.

"William is a huge supporter of films and spoke openly in his speech about the lack of diversity at the awards."

Another joke during the glitzy night saw Rebel Wilson poke fun at the name of Royal Albert Hall, the venue for the awards show.

The Australian actress welcomed the crowd, saying: "It is really great to be here at the Royal Andrew… uh, Royal Harry, no, at this royal palace place."

Prince William attended the awards night for the fourth year in a row.

And during his own speech, he urged the need for diversity in film, saying: "In 2020 and not for the first time in the last few years we find ourselves talking again about the need to do more to ensure diversity in the sector and in the awards process.
