Two mates blame ‘blonde moment’ on booking dream trip to the WRONG San Jose 3,000 miles away
TWO mates booking a dream trip to San Jose got flights to the wrong one 3,000 miles away.
Phoebe and Imogen , both 22, blame a "blonde moment" after they spent five hours organising flights for their holiday but each booked £500 tickets back to Britain from the wrong continent.
They had planned an eight week trip travelling from Medellin in Colombia before travelling through Panama to reach their final destination of San Jose, Costa Rica.
But the mistake would send the girls on an extra ten-hour trip to a city 3,000 miles away in North America so they could get home.
Phoebe, of Bristol, told The Sun: “We got together last Friday night to book the tickets.
“A bottle of wine and five hours later we finally found what we thought was a good deal.
“They were direct tickets from Medellin to San Jose for £500 each.
“We were so happy so we decided to go for it.
“When we finally looked at the tickets we realised our mistake straight away.
“The tickets were to San Jose in California, not Costa Rica.
'BLONDE MOMENT'
“We admit it was a blonde moment but both airports are called San Jose so it was an easy mistake to make.”
Call centre workers Phoebe and Imogen begged and pleaded with agent TravelUp for help and after The Sun intervened the travel company agreed to change the flights for free.
The agent had initially refused and had demanded a fee of over £700 to fix the mistake.
Imogen added: “We admittedly made a silly but equally disastrous error.
"We are so grateful to The Sun and TravelUp for stepping in and averting a potential disaster."
The girls will begin their dream trip away on March 1 to Colombia and return home from Costa Rica on April 27.
A TravelUp spokesman said: “After receiving a very heartfelt message from Phoebe via the TravelUp Instagram regarding their mistake in booking the wrong San Jose online, our CEO Ali Shah felt that the ladies should not have their trip of a lifetime impacted by what was an uncommon yet simple human error.
"As a gesture of goodwill, Ali has offered to facilitate and fund the changes required to ensure their trip can go ahead.”
