Iran reveals plan to file TERRORISM case against ‘criminal’ Donald Trump at The Hague over Qasem Soleimani killing
IRAN today threatened to prosecute Donald Trump for “terrorism” after its top general was assassinated in a US drone strike in Baghdad.
The pariah state claimed it would launch a case at the International Criminal Court in The Hague over the killing of General Qasem Soleimani earlier this month.
His death had led to a crisis in the Middle East and was followed by Iranian rocket attacks on US bases in Iraq and the shooting down of a passenger jet over Tehran.
The US and Iran appear to have pulled back from the brink of World War 3.
But the war of words continued today as Tehran’s justice ministry vowed to hold Mr Trump “accountable”.
Spokesman Gholam Hossein Ismaili said: “It’s clear the assassination of General Soleimani was a terrorist action.
“We intend to prosecute the US military, the government and Trump in the International Criminal Court in The Hague for this crime.”
He added that the US could also be prosecuted in Iraqi courts and in the Supreme Court of Iran.
Iran’s Chief of Justice Ebrahim Raisi has previously said the US President should be held to account for killing Soleimani.
The Hague is where warlords such as Serbian butcher Ratko Mladic and Liberian dictator Charles Taylor have been tried for genocide and other crimes against humanity.
Mr Trump has said he ordered the drone strike because the general – a revered figure for many Iranians – was plotting an attack on the US embassy in Iraq.
Soleimani, head of the feared Quds force, spearheaded Tehran’s proxy wars in the Middle East and funded terror groups in Syria and elsewhere.
Mr Trump and UK prime minister Boris Johnson have said Soleimani has “blood on his hands” over the deaths of thousands of innocents.
Millions lined the streets for Soleimani’s three-day funeral – and more than 50 mourners were crushed to death in a stampede.
But his death also sparked anti-regime protests that prompted the unlawful arrest of Britain’s ambassador in Tehran.
It emerged yesterday Israeli spies gave the US details of Soleimani’s flight to Baghdad after he met Hezbollah terror leaders in Beirut.
Today Canadian PM Justin Trudeau hinted he blamed Donald Trump for the shooting down of a Ukraine International Airlines jet with 176 on board – including 63 of his country’s citizens.
He said: “If there was no escalation recently in the region, those Canadians would be right now home with their families.”
