FLAT OUT LIE

Woman’s excuse that she’s late for work after driving over a nail exposed as a lie by Photoshop fail

A WOMAN’S attempt to get a day off work because she ‘had a nail stuck in her tyre’ has backfired spectacularly, making her the laughing stock of the internet.

The unnamed woman sent a message to her boss apologising for not being able to make it into the office, explaining that a nail had pierced her tyre and left her unable to drive.

She even sent a photo as proof.

But as she soon found out, a picture tells a thousand words – and hers were quickly revealed as lies.

Her boss shared the image with a co-worker, Sydney Whitson, who couldn’t believe her eyes.

Not only was the roadside photo a fake downloaded from Google images, but the tyre and nail were both cartoon imagery designed in Photoshop - and when zoomed in, they didn’t look real at all.

Ms Whitson shared the image on Twitter in disbelief.

She wrote: “My colleague called in (yet again) and said she had a nail on her tyre that caused her to have a flat.

“I need everyone to stop what they’re doing and ZOOM IN TO THE NAIL IN THE PICTURE SHE SENT MY BOSS.”

It wasn’t long before the image went viral, receiving 45,000 retweets – and still counting.

Thousands more commented on the photo sharing hilarious reactions and their own stories of fake-sickie-fibs.

While the original post got plenty of laughs, others helpfully posted images of what tyres punctured by nails actually look like.

Then followed other edited images that people suggested could have been sent instead.

Those in the Twitter thread largely agreed that most would be lying if they hadn’t faked a sick day or two to get out of work.

But most agreed they rather would have checked the google image they were sending to make sure their story sounded at least a little believable.

The woman’s hilarious white lie surely won't be one she'll live down any time soon.
