Soleimani had been due to be buried today in his hometown of Kerman, but the burial has now been postponed after at least 35 mourners were killed in a stampede at a funeral procession in the town.

Harrowing unverified footage showed medics desperately battling to revive victims, while around 48 people have also suffered injuries.

Police said over a million poured into the streets of Tehran yesterday to grieve the death of the leader of the Quds Force, who was killed in an airstrike ordered by US President Donald Trump.

The general’s body was then taken to the holy city of Qom, where a ceremony was held at the Masumeh shrine before it was taken on to Kerman.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wept over the general’s casket during his prayers as mourners were seen waving flags and demanding action against the US for the assassination on Friday.

President Trump ordered the airstrike after claiming Soleimani was responsible for killing Americans in Iraq and was plotting further attacks.

Soleimani, 62, was killed after two missiles fired from a MQ9 Reaper drone struck the general after he disembarked from an aircraft at Baghdad airport.

Zeinah, Soleimani’s daughter, directly threatened the US military in the Middle East and was met with cheers from the crowd.

She said: “The families of the American soldiers … will spend their days waiting for the death of their children.”

‘DEATH TO AMERICA’

The Ayatollah was seen blinking back tears and breaking down along with those around him as he recited prayers over his long-time friend.

Esmail Ghaani, Soleimani’s successor and friend, stood near Khamenei’s side as did President Hassan Rouhani and other leaders of the Islamic Republic.

He was also pictured crying over the general’s coffin during the ceremony at the capital’s famed Musalla mosque.

The state funeral was emotionally charged as other officials and crowds of hundreds of thousands expressed rage at the US.

Mourners chanted “Death to America” and burned US flags in the streets as the funeral procession passed.

Soleimani’s death has escalated tensions in the Middle East with top advisers to the Ayatollah and Trump exchanging threats.

Iran warned America it will “face another Vietnam” war if it doesn’t pull troops out of the Middle East.

A senior adviser to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that American forces are risking a bloody and unsuccessful stay in the Middle East.

Ali Akbar Velayati blasted: “Americans took a foolish move by assassinating him and they must leave the region.

“If they do not leave the region, they will face another Vietnam.”

Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Force chief Amir Ali Hajizadeh added: “Even killing Trump is not a sufficient vengeance.

“And the only thing that can pay for the blood of martyr Soleimani is completely expelling America from the region.”

Another senior Iranian, Hasameddin Ashena, tweeted a link to a Forbes article listing large Trump estates throughout the US, indicating that his multi-billion dollar estate is in the crosshairs.

The menacing tweet implies that Iran intends to target Trump’s $3.1 billion real estate empire, making things a lot more personal than the President may be comfortable with.

The tweet linked to that lists nine properties in New York that have a combined estimated value of $1.5 billion.

Trump has threatened to hit 52 Iranian sites “some at a very high level and important to Iran and the Iranian culture”.

The President, however, said he was undeterred as Tehran responded by listing 35 targets of their own.

Mr Ashena added: “We have ZERO problems with the American people. We even achieved deals with previous US administrations.

“Our sole problem is Trump. In the event of war, it is he who will bear full responsibility.”

The Iraqi parliament on Monday voted to expel US troops from the Middle Eastern nation.

The Pentagon was then forced to deny it was pulling US troops out of Iraq after the country’s parliament voted to expel foreign troops.

The US defence secretary said a “poorly worded” draft letter on the withdrawal was sent by mistake.
