A BRITISH teen at the centre of a gang rape case in Ayia Napa "may have been drugged", says an expert.
The 19-year-old could face a year behind bars after a Cypriot judge found her guilty of making up claims she was raped by 12 young Israelis at a hotel in July last year.
The teen, who has vowed to clear her name, is worried the conviction will block her dream of becoming a police officer and is haunted by tweets naming her online.
Dr Marios Matsakis, 65, a forensic pathologist, claims the lines of inquiry into the case were not properly investigated, .
He said: “It’s a possibility she had been drugged. It is another aspect which was not fully explored.”
The woman, from Derbyshire, who we are not naming, wanted to be a police officer and had offers from five universities to study criminology and policing.
Her mother told : "She had in mind to be a police officer but she would not be accepted as she wouldn’t have ‘good faith’ if she had to give evidence in court. "
She said her daughter was initially named on Twitter and fears she will never be able to escape the ordeal.
She added: “She sees it as a life sentence — it will always be online. She feels powerless, it is like she is being made to go through everything again.”
The teen has faced a traumatic ordeal since first reporting the alleged gang rape.
After telling police of the incident she later retracted her statement under questioning, with cops then claiming she concocted the story after learning video of her having consensual sex was posted online.
The Brit faces up to a year’s jail for public mischief when sentenced tomorrow.
Cypriot doctor Sergios Sergiou treated the woman hours after the alleged sex attack and said he believed her story.

He said: "She was very stressed and having a panic attack. She was crying and screaming and her friends said to me some guys had raped her.”
One of the men accused of raping the teen has vowed to sue her, sparking fury amongst counsellors and campaigners.
Yona Golub, 18, insists the 19-year-old student "deserves to go to jail" because his life has turned upside down since the rape allegation.
