MEGA-FIRES straddling the New South Wales and Victoria border are threatening to merge within hours.
Strong winds are pushing the Australia fires that are already engulfing an area bigger than Belgium.
Fires raging along the southeastern coast near cities like Sydney and Canberra are being fanned by strong northern winds creating a path of destruction.
The conditions could see the fires 'suck each other in' as temperatures rise to the mid 40s and meteorologists warn of a catastrophic weekend ahead.
NASA has shared its latest satellite images from December 31 showing the widespread bushfires raging through the states of New South Wales and Victoria in south-eastern Australia.
The huge towers of smoke from areas like East Gippsland can be seen from space, consuming half of the region.
Towns like Mallacoota are being described as 'apocalyptic' with supplies running desperately low.
Those in Biggara, Tintaldra, Towong, Towong Upper, Walwa and surrounding areas are being told to evacuate immediately.
For people in Batlow, west of Blowering Dam, Wondalga and west of Blowering Dam it is too late to leave as the fire threatens to hit the town on Friday afternoon.
Over 100,000 Australians are already being evacuated across the area and the Australian Navy has stepped in to evacuate those trapped on the beaches since New Year's Eve.
Michael Grainger of Victoria's police emergency responders said: "If they value their safety they must leave.
"I'd suggest personal belongings are of very, very little value in these circumstances.
"These are dire circumstances, there is no doubt."
