The Facebook post soon went viral with over 6.5K shares because of the Mississippi teacher's controversial statement which Scott circled.

"My philosophy is: if they don’t bring anything they don’t eat anything,"; the teacher wrote, prompting a furious online reaction.

Scott was not impressed with the teacher's ill-advised philosoohy and what it meant for children in her daughter's class.

She wrote: “Now for these kids to be between 6-7yrs this should not be a philosophy. Kids are kids man. This is definitely not acceptable in my eyes."

The Merdian Public School District (MPSD) issued a heartfelt apology to parents two days after the online furore.

“We want our students to view school as a safe space,” said Dr. Amy Carter, the MPSD Superintendent quoted in the letter.

“Our students should know when they come to school, that they are in an environment where they are nurtured by their teacher.

"All students will participate and no students will be made to feel uncomfortable if they don’t bring refreshments.

"We know that so many of our teachers go above and beyond to make the holidays a joy for so many."

Scott was pleased with the result and praised the school district for an issue "well-handled."
