AN INTERNATIONAL dog-fighting ring made up of over 40 people who fed barbecued dog meat to bloodthirsty spectators has been busted in Brazil.

The sick participants, including a VET were arrested during a raid on a property on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, yesterday.

Cops also rescued 19 pit-bulls, including puppies.

Animals were found in disgraceful conditions, tied up or in cages - two of the dogs rescued have since died.

The fights were advertised online, where sick spectators placed bets.

Photos and videos leaked to police showed horrific images of malnourished animals, bloody and beaten.

Detectives said the helpless animals were pitted against each other in a battle to the death.

Sickeningly, a large piece of roasted dog meat with the tail still attached was served to the audience at the fight cops stormed, it is alleged.

And body parts from dogs who were killed in the fights were allegedly fed to those who remained alive.

When armed cops stormed the property, they reportedly found one suspect holding two dogs, locked at the jaws.

Of those arrested, 36 were Brazillian nationals - including one vet - with five foreigners from America, Peru and Mexico.

The America, reportedly from California is accused of "refereeing" the fights.

Almost all of the twisted gang have posted bail, with the foreigners banned from leaving the country.

However, the judge has kept the organiser of the fights detained.

In October this year, the cruel world of blood-soaked Kyrgyzstan dog fighting was revealed.

Sickening photos showed blood-soaked dogs ripping each-other limb-from-limb in front of an audience containing kids.

Animal rights campaigners Peta have vehemently opposed such fights in other parts of the world, calling it a blood “sport” in which two dogs are pitted against each other and forced to rip each other to shreds.

The charity says: "Dogs are highly social pack animals who need and deserve love, attention, and exercise and thrive in an environment that offers the companionship of other dogs and human guardians.

"Dogs who are used for fighting are chained, taunted, and starved in order to trigger extreme survival instincts and encourage aggression."
