Human remains of FIFTY people found cut up and stuffed in plastic bags in Mexican mass grave
HUMAN remains discovered last month at a farm outside the city of Guadalajara in Mexico have been confirmed as belonging to at least 50 people.
Cops are investigating as to whether the mass grave could be down to notorious Jalisco New Generation, one of Mexico's bloodiest and most ruthless drug cartels.
Jalisco state prosecutors said recovery work at the farm in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, which began late November after the initial discovery, concluded Friday.
It was the second excavation close to the site after over 40 bodies were discovered stuffed into a well in September.
Experts determined there was no more evidence to be gathered from the new scene after remains corresponding to 50 different bodies were recovered.
Prosecutors said they had identified 13 people so far - 12 men and one woman, all of whom had previously been reported missing.
Experts are still trying to determine a cause of death.
Dying for a fix: Mexico’s CJNG
Drug-related violence in Mexico has increased massively in recent years with murders now commonplace.
Mexico’s history of its drug cartels is one of splits and constant fighting between themselves as they battle for supremacy.
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel sprang up in around 2009 when an earlier gang, Milenio Cartel, split apart.
Current leader of the CJNG is Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘El Mencho’ who is one of Mexico’s most wanted drug lords.
The gang are currently caught fight an increasingly bloody and violent drug war with a number of gangs.
They are currently fighting La Nueva Plaza for control of Guadalajara, Los Viagras for the state of Michoacan and bitter rivals Los Zetas for the city of Puebla.
They are also battling the Sinaloa cartel in Tijuana and Baja California as well as the Cartel de Juarez in Ciudad Juarez.
Then they are also fighting La Resistencia for control of Jalisco.
When the well was dug up, the remains were found stuffed into 119 black bags.
In a statement, investigators said the crime: "Gravely harms society."
The grim discovery of the September grave was made after locals in the state – where El Mencho’s Jalisco New Generation Cartel(CJNG) is based - complained of a foul smell.
In July, Jalisco prosecutors announced 21 bodies had been found in excavations in the yard of a house near Guadalajara.
And in May, authorities discovered the remains of at least 34 people at two separate properties in the state.
The mass graves are frequently used by criminals to dispose of bodies as at least 40,000 people have disappeared since Mexico's drug war began in 2006.
