Blocked sewer under SAS HQ regularly floods neighbours’ gardens with poo
A BLOCKED sewer under the HQ of the SAS regularly floods neighbours’ gardens with poo.
And repairs are delayed because civilian engineers need special access to the Who Dares Wins base.
The stinky problem was uncovered after a housing developer pitched plans for 100 homes south of the A480 near Hereford.
The Ministry of Defence raised several fears — including the civilian sewer which runs under the boundary fence suffering “regular blockages”.
The MoD claims surface water run-off from the site of the proposed new homes has already caused flooding of a defence construction yard.
This water then “flows into the wider Hereford garrison”.
Flooded gardens also result in calls of complaints to the garrison guard room, says the MoD.
Engineers need a military escort to get on the sensitive special forces base to repair and maintain the pipe.
An MoD letter to the council considering the plans added: “Given the garrison is an operational defence site there are additional restrictions allowing contractors on site.
“There is a risk that such restrictions could delay access to the sewer in an emergency.”

But top brass also oppose the planting of any extra trees or vegetation to soak up the water.
They warn intruders could use high trees to climb the security fence.
County councillors will consider the housing plan by January 29.
