Ayia Napa ‘rape lie’ Brit, 19, told she’ll spend Christmas in Cyprus as judge postpones verdict on ‘made up’ gang rape
A BRIT teen accused of making up a gang rape has been told she'll spend Christmas in Cyprus after a judge postponed the verdict.
The 19-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has put her uni career on hold over the farcical stop-start trial which began in August.
She turned from victim to accused after cops said she made up the rape claim when she discovered footage of her having sex had been posted online.
Her defence team say a retraction statement from her was obtained after eight hours of overnight questioning from police while she was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
Today closing arguments were made by the prosecution and defence, with the judge stunning the girl's family who were in court by saying he would return a verdict on December 30.
After the judge Michalis Papathanasiou announced the date of the verdict the girl shouted angrily at her legal team.
Speaking from Famagusta district court where the trial is taking place her shocked mum told The Sun: "We were hoping to get a verdict and be home for Christmas.
''I am bitterly disappointed, outraged and distressed.
"She is sharing an overcrowded cell with convicted criminals and now, although released on bail, she is still a prisoner in the gilded cage that is Cyprus.
"Being separated by thousands of miles at this time of year, when normally families get together is heartbreaking, not just for us, but for them too.''

Cops charged the teenager with public mischief following the alleged attack at the party resort of Ayia Napa last July when a group of 12 Israelis burst into her hotel room.
Earlier in the trial defence forensic pathologist Dr Marios Matsakis, told the court he was adamant ''violence was exercised'' and injuries on her body were "consistent with the rape having taken place".
In her closing argument defence lawyer Ritsa Pekri said the police investigation had been flawed and officers had been aggressive.
Ms Pekri said the police also failed to conduct an identity parade while the state pathologist who examined the woman had formed the wrong idea about events in the case.
At an earlier hearing, cops accused journalists of "staging" the rape scene at the hotel.
In his closing speech prosecutor Adamos Demosthenous told the court the sex attack was an "imaginary crime" that never took place.
He said the woman had made up the allegation because she "felt shame and humiliation" of being filmed having consensual sex.
The prosecutor said the films shot on mobile phones meant that the alleged victim had to change her story when she appeared in court to give evidence.
The girl, who denies a public mischief charge, faces a fine of £1000 and a maximum year in jail if convicted.
A Go Fund Me page set up by her family has raised more than £49,000 towards legal costs with many donations coming from Israel.
