How were election results announced?
Polling stations closed at 10pm on December 12 and the exit poll was released seconds later.
All 650 seats have been confirmed as St Ives returned their result at 2.40pm on December 13 after poor weather conditions meant boats could not transport ballot boxes from the Isles of Scilly.
As each constituency finished counting votes, the results were announced throughout the night and into the early hours of the morning.
At 5am, it was declared that the Tories had gained 326 seats - meaning they have a majority.
Boris Johnson's party now have 365 seats - while Labour has lost 59 .

What happens now Boris Johnson has a majority?
Boris Johnson has won a landslide victory, gaining an additional 47 seats across the UK.
He will continue as Prime Minister and the Conservative Party will be installed as a majority government.
Mr Johnson gave his acceptance speech at 7am on December 13, insisting that the NHS is his "top priority" after his crushing election victory over Jeremy Corbyn.
He then met the Queen at Buckingham Palace just before 11am to receive royal approval to form the next Government.
Mr Johnson left the Palace after a meeting which lasted more than 35 minutes, which is longer than expected.
In terms of finance, the pound surged by more than two per cent on the news of a Tory majority.
Getting Brexit done, which was Boris' signature slogan throughout the campaign, will now be high on the Tory agenda.
The PM insisted that "getting Brexit done is the irrefutable, inarguable decision of the British people" after the night's results.
"We will get Brexit done on time, by 31 January, no ifs, no buts, no maybes," he promised.
And the decisive win has "put an end to those miserable threats of a second referendum."

In a speech to congratulate activists at CCHQ he said the country had given him a "stonking mandate" and the Tories had created a political "earthquake."
"We have changed the political map in this country," he said.
"We have to grapple with the consequences of that. We have to change our own party. We have to rise to the level of events.
"We have to rise to the challenge that the British people have given us."
