LIVERPOOL FC's billionaire managing owner Mike Gordon was on board a private jet that overshot the John Lennon airport this morning.
The 54-year-old was heading to Liverpool for meetings when the incident unfolded - forcing all flights in and out of the airport to be rerouted or cancelled.
The Bombardier BD-700-1A11 Global 6000 jet had taken off from Hanscom Field in Massachusetts, skidding off the runway this morning.
A club source told : "Mike is absolutely fine.
"There were no injuries and he wants to pass on his appreciation to the unbelievable staff at John Lennon Airport and the emergency services for the way they dealt with the incident which made it a non-traumatic experience."
There were four people on board - three crew and one passenger - with no injuries reported.
Mr Gordon is known as the "man who runs Liverpool".
And a source told the BBC: "He's like to pass on appreciation to the amazing staff and emergency crews for their amazing work."
It is understood specialist crews are being called in to help move the business jet, which is stuck near the runway.
The airport has now been closed.
It is expected to reopen earlier this afternoon.
The airport is advising passengers to contact their airline.
A number of passengers took to social media after the incident, saying their planes had been diverted or delayed due to the incident.
