Boris Johnson blasts ex-PM John Major for urging voters to back rebel ex-Tories instead of official party candidates
FORMER Tory PM John Major was slapped down by Boris Johnson after he urged voters to back rebel ex-Conservatives instead of the party’s official candidates.
The ex-Tory leader shared a stage at a Remainer rally yesterday with Tony Blair but was lambasted by the PM for urging people to vote against the Tories.
He tore into the former Tory leader, while unveiling a new campaign banner “Get Britain out of neutral”.
Speaking at a rally in Kent in front of the poster, Boris said: “I think he’s wrong and I think he’s representing a view that is outdated, alas.
“I have a great respect for him and his record and I think we have to honour the will of the people and get Brexit done.”
He added: “I must respectfully disagree with my illustrious predecessor and urge people on Thursday, ‘Come on, let’s get this thing done’.”
Gesturing towards the new poster, the PM blasted Jeremy Corbyn’s Brexit position and said: “He’s evolved over the course of this campaign – he used to be indecisive, now he’s not so sure.
“What he now says is that he’s going to be neutral on the greatest issue facing our country.”

Mr Johnson warned that a coalition between Labour and the SNP would leave the UK “stuck in neutral” for the whole of the next Parliament.
He added: “It would be a disaster for our politics because he (Corbyn) doesn’t have a deal and he has no plan to get it.”
He gave his speech as Mr Major urged Conservatives to vote for independent ex-ministers David Gauke, Dominic Grieve and Anne Milton when they can.
He said: “Let me make one thing absolutely clear: none of them have left the Conservative Party, the Conservative Party has left them.
“Without such talent on its benches, Parliament will be the poorer, which is why – if I were resident in any one of their constituencies – they would have my vote.”
The rally was organised by the Vote for a Final Say and For our Future’s Sake campaigns who want a second referendum.

IT is time for the men in white coats to wheel off John Major, Tony Blair and their europhile has-been mates to a safe space where they can gibber together out of harm’s way.
Brexit derangement has so utterly confused and consumed them that they are now campaigning against a Tory victory — and thus for the only alternative: a Marxist-run Corbyn coalition.
They somehow prefer the immediate economic harm and global shock of that to a stable Tory Government delivering on the majority’s democratic will.
These old men simply cannot cope with their defeat three years ago and seek vengeance on those who beat them.
They really are that barking.
A smaller rally for the PM in Rochester, Kent was cancelled on security grounds yesterday.
A Tory source said: “Logistical reasons meant that the visit was severely delayed.
“The delay meant that additional security concerns presented themselves which then made the visit impossible.”
