A HEADTEACHER has been blasted as a grinch after banning pupils from sending Christmas cards.

He said it would help the environment by saving paper — but announced it in a letter sent to all parents.

Jonathon Mason was accused of rank hypocrisy over his decision.

In the letter to 275 mums and dads, he says the idea came from several pupils worried about the environmental impact.

Mr Mason, head of Belton Lane Primary in Grantham, Lincolnshire, wrote: “Instead, can we encourage you to save money and the environment by not sending cards to all of the children in the class individually, but instead if you want to send a card please send one card to the whole class.”

But one fuming parent said: “Why should children have the joy taken out of Christmas? Why can’t all these cards be recycled anyway?”
