Jeremy Corbyn’s giveaway manifesto halves Boris Johnson’s lead in seven days, poll reveals
THE LABOUR giveaway bonanza has helped cut Boris Johnson’s poll lead in half in just seven days, a poll revealed.
Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign surge would put the UK in “hung Parliament territory” if repeated by voters on December 12.
The Labour leader has seen his rating UP five points to 33 per cent with the Tories DROPPING two points to 39 per cent, BMG Research shows.
Promises including free broadband, a £58 billion election payout to women pensioners and ending university tuition fees has boosted the party’s popularity.
The Tories have repeatedly claimed duirng the election campaign higher taxes will mount up to £2,400 per person if Labour are elected.
Polling experts believe a lead of less than seven per cent for Boris Johnson could pave the way for Jeremy Corbyn to enter Downing Street propped up by the Scottish National Party.
LIB DEMS HURT TORIES
The poor showing by the Lib Dems is also hurting the Tories as they are down five points, the Brexit Party is on four per cent and the Greens on five per cent.
The PM has even warned US President Donald Trump to stay out of the election when he arrives here for a NATO summit starting on Tuesday.
BoJo said the “best thing is for neither side to get involved in each other’s election campaign”.
Robert Struthers, the firm’s head of polling, last night said Labour was “starting to build momentum” ahead of polls opening in eleven days.
HUNG PARLIAMENT TERRITORY
He said: “The shifts we have witnessed in our headline voting intention figures take the Conservative lead from a likely majority into possible hung parliament territory.
Speaking to The Independent, he added: “The key question for the remainder of the campaign is the extent to which Labour can continue to squeeze the Liberal Democrat and Green vote.
“If this trend continues, this election could be much closer than it looked just a matter of weeks ago.”
Meanwhile, a poll of polls questioning of 10,000 voters revealed Mr Johnson’s projected majority slashed from 80 to just 12 in a week.
The PM’s top aide Dominic Cummings has said the election is “much tighter” than the polls suggested.
A Tory insider: “The election will be tight and we are fighting for every seat. The risk of another hung Parliament is real.”
BMG spoke to 1,663 voters between 27 and 29 November.
