BRITAIN’S most festive street won’t be lit up next month after council killjoys banned the use of traffic cones to control crowds.
Over the past 12 years, thousands have flocked to see the cul-de-sac’s impressive Christmas displays.
Trinity Close in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, has also raised £100,000 for charity.
But this year a council safety group has advised locals could be held liable if there is an accident involving the cones.
Nick Gardner, 50, started the tradition with his wife Hazel, 49, and neighbours.
He said: “The council has told us that if anybody gets hurt, we will be liable.
“So we’re not making it an event this year.
“It’s obviously a shame that we can’t collect for charity, but we’re just having a year off from that.

“We always meet with the council before the lights go up each year, so we’re hopeful that next year something can be sorted out.’’
A Somerset council spokesman said: “As the display has grown in popularity, we have provided advice to ensure they are aware of potential consequences and liabilities.
“This is well-intended and we are happy to support their plans for the future.”
