Horror at Berlin Christmas market as man is crushed to death on theme park ride in front of family
A MAN has been fatally struck by a rollercoaster at Berlin's Christmas market, say firefighters.
Fire department spokesman Jens-Peter Wilker said the man was hit by one of the carriages, and was crushed beneath it.
Firefighters were called to the busy market just after 7pm, local time, on Saturday night.
They told (DW) that attempts were made to resuscitate the man at the scene - but these were unsuccessful.
The department said it's believed the victim was a rollercoaster attendant, who was working on the ride at the time of the fatal accident.
reports that counselling was given to a family of four who had been riding the rollercoaster at the time of his death.
Officials closed the market - which had only opened on Friday - shortly after he passed away.
DW reports that cops have ruled out foul play.

The Christmas market was operating from a large car park, on Landsberger Allee in the German capital's northeast.
The man's death occurred on the same weekend that a toddler, two, died after being crushed by a large block of ice, when a sculpture collapsed on her at a Christmas market in Luxembourg.
